Introduction to Mobile Computing

Mobile Computing

It is a technology that enables data and information to be transmitted on another wireless connected device without need of a physical link, it is mainly classified into:
  •    Mobile communication  they are infrastructure that enable communication they include protocols and services
  •    Mobile hardware physical components that receive services of mobility.
  •   Mobile software programs running on a mobile hardware

Classification of Mobile Computing

  •   Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)  easy to use electronic planners that also aid in information sharing
  •    Smartphone’s it is a combination of a normal mobile phone,PDA and Camera enabled phone.
  •   Tablet PC and I-Pads larger touch screen enabled combination of PDA and a mobile phone.

Advantages of Mobile Computing

  •   Enable users can be able to work from anywhere as long as there is connectivity
  • Saves time taken to move from home to your workstation.
  • Work can be done effectively and efficiently from any location.
  •   Easy to carry out any research hence limiting field work
  •   Can be a source of entertainment through videos and music.

Disadvantages of Mobile Computing

  •    They readily face transmission interference
  •   They are prone to hacking
  •  They are source of health hazard
  • They don’t have are reliable  power supply
  • Availability of less graphical features and animations
  • Small keyboards making it difficult to type

Measure taken to mitigate security issues

  • Installing Security Hardware and Software.
  • Educating users on security issues
  • Auditing and developing sound, effective policies to govern mobile computing.
  • Enforcing proper access rights and permissions.
  • Though scrutiny of staff to be hired.

Emerging Trends in Mobile computing

  • increased the  mobile capacity and speed using new modulation techniques ag  GSM
  •     Introduction of radio communication in close proximity
  •     Introduction of 4G
  • GPS(geographic positioning system) commonly used in navigation
  •  Access to WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access )infrastructure

Mobile Cloud Computing

. it when mobile computing processing is done in cloud, data is stored in cloud, and the mobile device used as an output device.

Architecture of Mobile Cloud computing

M CC includes four types of cloud resources:
  • Distant mobile cloud
  • Distant immobile cloud
  • Proximate mobile computing entities
  • Proximate immobile computing entities
  • Hybrid

Problem  faced in cloud computing

  • Unreliable transmission platform
  •   Integration of mobile computing environments
  • Movement to normal operation to cloud is challenging
  • Congestion in the cloud service
  • Prone to security issues

Mobile browser

It is a web browser that is used in a mobile device
Examples are
  •   Android browser
  •  Opera mini
  •     Internet explorer
  • Chrome
  • Blackberry browser
  • Safari Browser
